Carl “Tom” Lange’s Story

After sustaining multiple fractures involving his pelvis, sacral and L5, Carl “Tom” Lange was admitted to Riverview Health for emergency care. Following stabilization in the main hospital, he was transferred to The Mindrebo Family Acute Rehabilitation Unit at Riverview Health to begin his recovery journey. 

When he contacted his personal physician, who is unaffiliated with Riverview Health, for a recommendation on where to continue physical therapy, the response was immediate and affirming: “You are in the right spot. They are outstanding.” 

That endorsement rang true for Tom. “Every day, I noticed small details in my rehabilitation that made a big difference,” he said. “Things I wouldn’t have thought of as a patient, but that the team clearly understands are crucial for recovery.” 

Throughout his stay, Tom was consistently impressed by the level of communication and attentiveness provided by the Riverview Health team. Even as caregivers rotated, Tom appreciated the effort made to fully understand his condition and needs. “I explained my injuries and limitations over and over, but I knew they were asking because they wanted to understand how best to help me,” he said. “They showed me they truly cared.”
