Breast Reconstruction with Implant Placement and Latissimus Flap
This is a 69-year-old female who was diagnosed with breast cancer of her right breast. She had previous history of a lumpectomy and radiation to her right breast related to a diagnosis of DCIS in 2004. During routine mammography, a new breast cancer was identified. Due to the nature of her cancer and her previous history, she opted for a right mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. A tissue expander and acellular dermal matrix was placed at the time of mastectomy. Following her tissue expansion, she underwent a second-stage breast reconstruction surgery. During this surgery, the tissue expander was replaced with a silicone breast implant and a right latissimus flap was done due to her previous history of radiation. In addition, she underwent a mastopexy to her left breast for symmetry.
She is healing very well and is happy with her results thus far. There is a small area on the distal tip of the skin flap of her right breast that is still healing, as can be identified in her photographs.
