Breast Reduction

This is a 63-year-old female who came to our office with interest in a breast reduction.  She presented with all of the typical symptoms caused by large breasts, including back/neck/shoulder pain, rashes under her breasts, poor posture, shoulder grooving, hand numbness, and headaches. On initial exam she was found to have severe macromastia and breast asymmetry.

A total of 1,797 grams of tissue was removed from her left breast and 1,640 grams was removed from her right breast (this equates to 7.5lbs of breast tissue in total).  Her postoperative course was complicated by partial loss of her right nipple. Given the size of her breasts preoperatively and amount of reduction performed this was not totally unexpected. Fortunately, the patient has healed quite nicely and her nipple is now completely re-epithelialized.  She has had a dramatic approvement in the appearance of her breasts and is extremely happy with her results.  She has also had a tremendous reduction in her symptoms.
