Riverview Health is proud to offer robotic gynecological surgeries to treat endometriosis, heavy uterine bleeding, uterine fibroids, uterine prolapse, including performing myomectomy and hysterectomy. During a da Vinci robotic surgery, the physician operates from a console across the room from the patient. While the doctor remains in control at all times, the system uses a high-definition camera, 3D vision and a magnified view to seamlessly translate her or his movements into precise, real-time movements of the surgical instruments.
Using this technology, surgeons perform complex procedures through just a few small surgical incisions. The system’s precision allows doctors to access and operate on the necessary fields without creating additional trauma to unaffected areas. Studies have shown that when compared to patients having open surgery, da Vinci surgical patients experience shorter hospital stays, less pain and blood loss, minimal scarring and a faster recovery and return to normal activities.
Although the system is robotic, it cannot operate on its own. The surgeon remains in control the entire time.
Riverview Health was recognized by the Indiana Hospital Association (IHA), in partnership with Governor Eric J. Holcomb and State Health Commissioner Kris Box, MD, FACOG, with the Inspire Hospital of Distinction 2021 award for its commitment to infant and maternal health.
“Being recognized two years in a row is a true testament to the commitment our maternity team devotes to each of our patients,” said Michelle Allen, director of maternal and child services at Riverview Health. “In addition to making patient safety a priority, we strive to create an environment where our patients feel they have access to top-notch care but with a personal touch.”
INspire, funded by the Indiana Department of Health’s Safety PIN grant, was developed to implement the delivery of best practice care for Hoosier moms and babies and recognize hospitals for excellence in addressing key drivers of infant and maternal health. Riverview Health earned the Hospital of Distinction award based on implementing best practices in five key areas, including infant safe sleep, breastfeeding, tobacco prevention and cessation, perinatal substance use, and obstetric hemorrhage.
