Are you regularly experiencing balance problems, dizziness, vertigo or blurred vision? If so, you might have a balance disorder. With at least half of the U.S. population having a balance problem in their lifetime, you aren’t alone when you discuss this with your doctor.
Did you know balance disorders are associated with the vestibular system and the inner ear? Vestibular physical therapy may be able to help you by decreasing dizziness, falls and vertigo as well as increasing your balance, activity levels and independence.
If you think you have a balance problem, your primary care physician can refer you to one of our five outpatient rehabilitation locations to have your balance tested. At Riverview Health, our outpatient rehabilitation team will provide you with a personalized care plan by evaluating your vision, walking pattern and range of motion in your joints, as well as assessing your muscle strength in relationship to your balance.
We also use Balance Master technology to test your baseline balance by recording measurements related to your inner ear equilibrium, your stability and how you use your lower extremities.
After your first assessment, your physical therapist will create a plan specifically designed for you. Some treatment options your physical therapist might recommend include balance exercises, strength and flexibility training, and learning how to decrease risks that can lead to a fall.
Start improving your stability today by joining Balance, Stretch and More to boost your strength, range of motion and, of course, balance.
