‘Tis the season for…germs!

Kristin Lamb, Riverview Hospital Wellness Coordinator

This time of year brings with it many great things – the holidays, time with family and friends, and hope for a new year ahead. What it also brings with it is…germs!

Some quick points to keep in mind during cold and flu season. These principles will help prevent the spread of respiratory and gastro-intestinal diseases:

  • WASH your hands when they are dirty and before eating
  • DO NOT cough into your hands. Instead, use the bend of your arm to help contain the germs
  • DO NOT sneeze into your hands. Grab a tissue if possible. Turn away from others and avoid contaminating surfaces
  • Above all, DO NOT put your fingers into your eyes, nose or mouth (mucous membranes)!

Here’s to a happy and healthy holiday season!
