Orthopedic Surgery
“My interest in orthopedics and sports medicine stems from my experience as a patient. I sustained several injuries that would have ended my athletic career, but I was able to return to playing after I received great orthopedic care. I then decided that I wanted to dedicate my career to relieving patients' pain, improving function, and helping people get back to the activities they love. Orthopedic sports medicine is a unique field in that it applies to patients of all ages. I am passionate about working with patients of every age, from those in their prime to the weekend warrior and beyond. Choosing Riverview Health was all about fit. Riverview offers all of the resources of a much larger hospital system while retaining a smaller community feel. At Riverview Health, physicians have a vested interest in their practices, which allows them to provide care in the best interest of patients.”
Dr. Scott Smith and the staff at Riverview Health Physicians Orthopedics & Sports Medicine are here to provide expert orthopedic care for patients of all ages. Dr. Smith utilizes a team-based approach with his patients—working closely with specialists from multiple disciplines to offer operative and non-operative treatments.
Dr. Smith’s decision to become an orthopedic surgeon stemmed from his own experience as an injured football player in high school and college. Dr. Smith’s injuries could have ended his career as an athlete, but he was able to return to football because of the care he received. Dr. Smith then decided to dedicate his career to helping others get back to the activities they love.
A native Hoosier, Dr. Smith was born and raised in Indianapolis. He attended DePauw University, and after graduation he went on to complete his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Smith is fellowship-trained in sports medicine. In his free time, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with his wife, son and their golden retriever.
