Specimen Type
Prepare skin with Blood Culture Prep Kit. Aseptically draw 20 mL of blood and place 10 mL each into aerobic and anaerobic Bactec bottles. For difficult draws and pediatric patients, collect 3 mL of blood and place in a Peds Plus bottle.

Bactec Blood Culture Bottles Adults: 1 Aerobic bottle & 1 Anaerobic bottle per set Children: 1 Peds Plus bottle per set
Required Volume
10 mL each into aerobic and anaerobic Bactec bottles. For pediatric patients, collect 3 mL of blood and place in a Peds Plus bottle.
Specimen Handling
Transport immediately to the laboratory.
